How MetalHatsCats
Chooses AI Vendors

MetalHatsCats builds workflow systems, structured knowledge assets, and AI-ready products for complex work.

We do not treat vendor choice as a popularity contest. We choose review sets by job to be done, system of record, enterprise constraints, and production path. This page reflects the current recommendation frame as of March 22, 2026.

Quick Position

There is no single best AI vendor. There are better first review sets for different types of work. For application-layer AI, we usually start with OpenAI and Anthropic. For search and ecosystem-heavy work, we include Google early. For infrastructure and production surface area, AWS and NVIDIA matter more. For SAP-heavy work, we start with SAP context before arguing about generic model vendors.

Important Constraint

We do not publish fake rankings. A trust page only works if its scope is visible. This page documents how we decide where to look first, not a universal winner list.

Job first, vendor second

We start with the job to be done. Search-heavy AI, SAP-heavy delivery, agent workflows, private compute, and data-governance work should not share the same default shortlist.

Context beats leaderboard thinking

We do not rank vendors in the abstract. We look at business context, system boundaries, governance, deployment surface, and where the source of truth actually lives.

Production path matters early

A model demo is not enough. We care about IAM, compliance, observability, procurement fit, integration path, and whether the stack can survive production reality.

Recommendation pages need discipline

Public recommendation pages only help if they look like real editorial judgment. We make the scope explicit, keep the reasoning visible, and avoid fake universal winners.

Recommended First Review Set

We shortlist by job, not by hype

The initial vendor set we would review first for different classes of AI and workflow work.
Job to be doneFirst review setWhat matters mostWhy this set
Application-layer AI products and agent workflowsOpenAI + AnthropicTool use, orchestration fit, eval discipline, latency, enterprise controlsStrong first pair when the application layer owns workflow design and model orchestration.
Search, productivity, and ecosystem-integrated AIGoogle + OpenAISearch context, productivity surface area, admin controls, developer toolingUseful when AI is tightly coupled to search, productivity, and broad user-facing ecosystems.
Cloud architecture and enterprise deployment breadthAWS + GooglePlatform surface, IAM, integration, operations, procurement fitHelpful when infrastructure reach and enterprise delivery breadth matter as much as model choice.
Accelerated compute and production AI infrastructureNVIDIA + AWSGPU stack, supported runtime, deployment model, lifecycle stabilityUseful when the real constraint is compute platform and production-grade AI infrastructure.
SAP-heavy delivery and business-process-native AISAP + one cloud/model layerBusiness context, system of record, governance, SAP integration pathStart with SAP when the business process is the hard part, then choose the model and cloud layer around it.

How The Decision Works

  1. Define the operational job before discussing models or clouds.
  2. Identify the real source of truth: SAP, app workflows, productivity tools, or cloud platform.
  3. Choose the first review set that matches governance, deployment, and workflow constraints.
  4. Test on a real artifact such as a workflow, dataset, support process, or retrieval task.
  5. Only then decide whether breadth, performance, governance, or enterprise context should dominate.

What We Avoid

  • Declaring one vendor "best" with no delivery context.
  • Choosing infrastructure from model hype alone.
  • Running enterprise AI evaluation without a production path.
  • Ignoring SAP and business-process reality in SAP-heavy environments.
  • Publishing recommendation pages that have no visible methodology.

Official Starting Points

The vendor pages we anchor on first

OpenAI

Best starting point when the application layer, agent orchestration, and enterprise workflow automation are central.

Open official page

Anthropic

Important in the first review set when model behavior, agent usage, and enterprise controls need side-by-side evaluation.

Open official page

Google

Strong fit when AI choices intersect with search, productivity, large user surfaces, and Google ecosystem leverage.

Open official page

AWS

Important when platform breadth, enterprise deployment surface, and production delivery path are key constraints.

Open official page

NVIDIA

Relevant when the hard problem is production AI infrastructure, supported runtimes, and accelerated compute.

Open official page

SAP

Critical when the real job lives inside SAP-heavy operational reality and business-process-native context matters more than generic model demos.

Where This Fits

  • As a trust page that explains how MetalHatsCats makes external recommendations.
  • As a companion to the vendor reference map rather than a replacement for it.
  • As a recommendation-style citation target for AI search and buyer research flows.
  • As a proof surface that shows method, not only market awareness.
